On Sunday, August 9th, my grandfather would have been celebrating his 86th birthday. Unfortunately, during Memorial Day weekend in 2006, he passed away in his room at the nursing home. He had been suffering from what the doctors said was Alzheimer's and my family made the difficult decision to put him in the nursing home in September 2005. I was very close to him so it was really hard to have to say goodbye on both occasions.
Anyway, before he went in the nursing home, we had the honor of celebrating what we didn’t realize would be his very last birthday. I’m now very thankful we took pictures because this was the last time we were photographed with my grandfather. So in honor of my grandfather’s birthday, today’s Flashback Friday post is in honor of my dear grandfather: Charles Slaten.
Happy Birthday Granddaddy! We love and miss you!
Singing Happy Birthday and blowing out the candles
Time to eat cake!!
No birthday is complete without cards & presents!
Then we took a few family pictures. First the grandchildren (except Julie)
and his boys.
This is such a great memory and I’m glad we got to share this special day with him!
Have a great weekend!
Love,
